The Regional Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Locum Pool balances the need of department members for flexibility to maintain a sustainable work-life balance with the Department’s need for accountability in credentialing of physicians treating patients in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. Towards the first goal, the Locum Pool provides members at all sites equal access to a list of obstetrician gynaecologists looking for short-term contracts to cover existing practices. Towards the former goal, all physicians on the locum pool will be fully vetted through a rigorous credentialing process that provides credentials at all Vancouver Coastal Sites.
Obgyn Locum Pool Application
If you are interested in becoming a locum please see our Locum Pool Information Sheet for further information.
Accessing the Locum Pool
Privileged obstetrician gynaecologists at a Vancouver Coastal Health Site who are seeking short-term contract physicians to cover their practice are encouraged to pursue candidates from the VCH Locum Pool. The structured central process will ensure the highest quality physicians with specific privileges that are easily transferable throughout the region. Successful applicants to the Locum Pool will be listed and posted on the Departmental Web site under Locum Pool (password protected).
Site heads will no longer provide ad hoc short-term locum privileges for physicians seeking coverage outside the Locum Pool, so all physicians providing coverage will have to pursue credentials through the Locum Pool. Once a physician has identified a short-term replacement from the Locum Pool, they should notify the appropriate Site Head of the Locum physician and the requested time frame by forwarding it to the Site Head. The Site Head can then pursue privileges at the site to meet the requested time frame. Because credentialing will already be in place, this step should be a straightforward process.
