Department Members Recognized for Their Support in Graduate Education

Every year, final examinations are held for more than 500 UBC doctoral candidates and each of these examinations involves a faculty member serving in the role of Chair. The Chair of a doctoral examination has an important function; she or he represents the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, ensures the exam is fair and proceeds according to UBC policies, and reports back to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies about the proceedings and the Examining Committee’s recommendation. Securing Chairs for doctoral examinations is a perennial challenge for their office.

This year the Faculty of Graduate Studies Dean and Vice-Provost Susan Porter recognized the following faculty members from your department who chaired Final Doctoral Examinations between September 2013 and December 2014:

The Department sincerely appreciates the service they have provided, and continue to provide, to the University and in support of quality graduate education and research.

We hope that you will join us in recognizing the contributions of these faculty members and encourage others to support the graduate studies program at UBC.
