The Carl Nimrod Awards recognize excellence, commitment, innovation, and leadership in teaching knowledge, attitudes, and skills to the next generation of practitioners.  Dr. Geoffrion received this award at the recent Annual Meeting of the Association of Professionals in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in Toronto.  She exemplifies the characteristics of the award.  She is a busy teacher, providing clinical teaching to undergraduate students, residents and fellows.  But more than a clinical teacher, she is a scholar of pedagogy, with multiple grants and studies investigating the best methods to maximize surgical education. An example is the PROMOTE Study, recently presented at the Annual Meeting of the Association of Professionals in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. This randomized trial compares the experiences of residents pursuing usual teaching to a competency based curriculum in Urogynaecology.  As the Royal College is moving towards competency based learning, the leadership she has shown with the PROMOTE study will be invaluable.  It also demonstrates her leadership and demonstrates why she deserves this award.  The fact that Dr. Carl Nimrod was one of her teachers and role models is especially poignant.
