Helen Davies, our Senior Application Developer is retiring at the end of October. Here is a bit about her time at UBC and what is next on the horizon for her:
How long have you worked at UBC?
I’ve been working for UBC in 15 years in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. IT has changed a lot in those times, hopefully for the better!
What was your role?
My title as Senior Software Developer covered a range of database design, software coding and general IT problem solving. I occasionally referred to myself as chief hacker, we can’t let computers get the better of us, we just need to think of better solutions.
What have you enjoyed the most about your time at UBC?
Working with the different project teams for each system – you are all on one of my user teams, even if you didn’t know it. My motto is ‘no news is good news’ – nobody ever calls to tell you all systems are working. I hope our information flow has improved in this time.
Tell us something that we might not know about you?
I play a mean game of table tennis, it’s been good for pandemic therapy. I’m now swapping for a bigger paddle to play pickle ball locally.
How are you going to fill your time without us?
You’ll find me on the beach or cycling or skiing. We’re looking forward to enjoying some travelling when we get more freedom and spending time with our new grandson. In the longer term …. growing old disgracefully!!
