Jennet Baltayeva

Job Title Research Assistant / Lab Technician

How long have you worked at the UBC Faculty of Medicine? 2 years

Tell us what you do at the Faculty in one or two sentences I support the research in Dr. Alexander Beristain’s lab. I perform a wide array of duties, that involve doing experiments, training and supporting my team members in their respective projects and having everything in the lab run smoothly.

What’s your favourite thing about your work? Definitely the people I work with. They’re all incredible! We have a very supportive and friendly team and we all can lean on each other.

One thing we might be surprised to learn about you I think the most surprising thing about me might be where I come from. I am from a beautiful country in Central Asia, Turkmenistan, and a lot of people tell me that I’m the first person from Turkmenistan they’ve ever met!

What makes you laugh? Funny memes I find on Reddit.

What makes you cry? Certain memories, watching other people cry, music of Ludovico Einaudi.

Most healthy habit My night time routine, which involves aromatherapy, stretching and falling asleep to relaxing ASMR.

Naughty habit (that you are prepared to share with the world!) Cracking my knuckles.

When we are able to toast your award what will you be drinking and why? Piña colada, as I love coconut and pineapple!
