REI Fellowship Program Director Announcement


The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is pleased to announce that Dr. Sonya Kashyap is now the new reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) graduate fellowship program director for the UBC. Dr. Kashyap selected to direct, teach and mentor trainees in the fields of REI, IVF ( in vitro fertilization) and ART ( assisted reproductive technologies).

Dr. Kashyap has an extensive background in academic teaching and research as well as private practice ART. She completed her fellowship at the renowned Cornell University Medical College in NYC under the mentorship of  ART pioneer Dr. Zev Rosenwaks.  She had completed her medical school, residency and masters of epidemiology at the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Kashyap is the recipient of many national and international awards, grants and lecture invitations on the topics of fertility preservation, improving outcomes of assisted reproductive technologies, reducing the complications  of multiple pregnancies after ART.  Some of these awards include:  Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) New Investigator award in Women’s and Gender Health ( 2007-2012) ; Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society and American Society of Reproductive Medicine Best Paper awards; research grants from Physician Services Incorporated, Educating Future Physicians of Ontario, CIHR, and the UCSF Research Allocation grant award. She has been an invited plenary speaker at the Assisted Human Reproduction Council of Canada , The Midwest Fertility Symposia Business Managers meeting, the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society Fellows Day, the annual meeting of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada, Federation of International Gynecologists and Obstetricians, Serono International Symposia for Cancer and Reproduction to name a few and has regularly instructed medical students, residents and fellows during her academic career.

She was recruited to work at The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Centre for Excellence in Women’s and Reproductive Health at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) prior to returning to Vancouver in 2010. UCSF remains the top NIH funded department of Obstetrics and Gynecology In the US and one of the top 3 medical schools in the US.

In 2013, Dr. Kashyap became the medical director of Genesis Fertility Centre. Dr. Kashyap is excited to participate in curriculum development and mentorship of the next generation of REI physicians and leaders.
