Division Head – Division of Gynaecologic Specialties, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of British Columbia, is seeking applications for the positon of Division Head of the Division of Gynaecologic Specialties.

The Division of Gynaecologic Specialties was created in 2012 in recognition of the diversity of academic activities among faculty who do not fall into one of the traditional streams of the Royal College certified sub-specialties. This Division currently encompasses 5 sections with section leads, which include: Family Planning, Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) / Endometriosis / Chronic Pelvic Pain (CPP), Pediatric Gynecology, Reproductive Infectious Diseases (RID), Urogynecology and Vulvar Health and Sexual Medicine.

The role of the Division Head, Division of Gynaecologic Specialties is to promote, support and facilitate divisional academic productivity, provincial cohesion which is expected to align with the Departmental Strategic Plan and to engage with faculty across the province.

The members of the Division are committed to excellence in clinical care, continuing professional development, knowledge translation and implementation, teaching and research in the focused sub-specialty areas of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The goal of these activities is to improve patient care and optimize the health care system.

Obstetrician and Gynaecologist – BC Women’s and St. Paul’s Hospital

The UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is seeking an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the division of General Obstetrics and Gynaecology, based at St. Paul’s Hospital (GYN) and BC Women’s Hospital (OB and ambulatory GYN). This position will have full obstetrical and outpatient Gynaecologic privileges at BC Women’s Hospital and full gynecologic privileges for complex GYN surgery at St. Paul’s Hospital.   Active participation in the Obstetrics call rota for management of labor and delivery at BCWH, and the Gynecology call schedule at SPH are requirements.

We seek a candidate with an outstanding track record in clinical and surgical Obstetrics and Gynaecology who is committed to the educational and research mandates of these academic health authority campuses of the UBC Faculty of Medicine.  Having advanced training or practical experience in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, high risk obstetrics, pelvic ultrasound, colposcopy or menopause is a strong asset.

As the successful applicant for this position, you will have certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and be eligible for licensure to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. This individual will need to be able to qualify for a position as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The incumbent will directly report to the Site Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at BC Women’s Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital.

As a clinical faculty member within the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching, research and service obligations at the discretion of the Division Head of GYN Specialties and General Obstetrics. These include participation in teaching of the undergraduate medical students and post-graduate residents, facilitation of clinical research and participation in quality improvement reviews. In addition, personal dedication to the Royal College’s focus on lifelong learning through professional development is expected.

This position is funded by fee for service through the Medical Services Plan of British Columbia, with stipends paid for clinical teaching.

St. Paul’s Hospital- Providence Health Care (PHC) is a major academic center for complex gynecologic surgery and pelvic floor reconstruction. The successful applicant will have ample opportunities for self-growth, research, and leadership in gynecologic surgery.

We are moving to the New St. Paul’s Hospital in Spring 2027. The new campus is the largest hospital redevelopment project in BC’s history. This new 11-story building with 546 beds and 16 operating rooms will be a state-of-the-art hospital and one of the most digitally advanced in Canada. In preparation for this move and expansion of gynecology services, we are developing multidisciplinary programs with urology, colorectal surgery, and radiology departments to elevate gynecologic surgery through education, research, innovation, and advocacy. Generalist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist | Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Division Head – Maternal Fetal Medicine – BC Women’s Hospital

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of BCW Hospitalis seeking a Clinical Division Head for Maternal Fetal Medicine at BC Women’s Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia.  

The Division head will oversee MFM physician activities (such as recruitment, development, credentialing, clinical assignments, clinical education of colleagues and trainees at all levels, contractual and reporting obligations), MFM divisional resource allocation, financial planning, provincial outreach, committee representation and strategic visioning and planning. This role requires monitoring and enhancement of the quality and safety of patient care within the Division.

The incumbent will provide direct reporting of divisional activities to the department head of OBGYN at BCWH and ultimately to the Chief Medical Officer at BCWH and BCCH/PHSA.

Co-Division Head, Division of General Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Associate Director, Postgraduate Residency Program | Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the Associate Director, Postgraduate Residency Program. The successful candidate(s) will hold a current faculty position within the Department.

Reporting to the Department Head through the Associate Head, Education with close collaboration with the Program Director, Residency, the successful candidate(s) will have a strong interest in education and have expertise in the competency by design model.

This exciting educational leadership opportunity as the Associate Director, Postgraduate Residency Program is a position that will work in collaboration with the Program Director, Postgraduate Residency Program. The Associate Program Director will work closely and shares responsibilities with the Program Director, at various hospital medical education offices, the PGME office, and the Lead Residents to ensure the department has a high quality and efficient accredited residency program.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the development and operation of the program such that it meets the general standards of accreditation, and the specific standards of accreditation of programs in the specialty or subspecialty as set forth by the accrediting colleges; in the absence of the Program Director, the APD will Chair the residency program committee.
  • Function as chair of the Research Advisory Committee, including revision of terms of reference, coordination of research curriculum, supervision of journal club outcomes. They will collaborate with the Associate-Co-Heads, Research.
  • Collaborating with the Program Director to ensure ongoing implementation of Competency by Design.
  • Support the management of the program through planning of the academic half day curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with the Residency Program Director to develop expansion of the program.
  • The Associate Program Director is expected as required to participate in meetings at the University of British Columbia in the appropriate committees including but not limited to Residency Program Committee and Competency Committee.
  • This position is expected to be a time commitment of 0.2FTE (1 day per week) and compensated at $30,000 per annum.

The MFM division, based at BC Women’s hospital operates in a collaborative, shared clinical practice which requires a high degree of teamwork and in alignment with the BCW values and mission statement. Clinical work includes pre-pregnancy, antepartum, labor and delivery and post-partum care of MFM specific patients. This may include work and collaboration at the tertiary referral centers for BC Women’s, which includes but are not limited to, Vancouver Acute Hospital, and St. Paul’s Hospital, for pregnant patients with complex surgical or maternal medical conditions.

The applicants will be evaluated based on the totality of their experience and skills however, the following (in no particular order/importance) will be given more weight to the application.

  1. Additional training and/or experience in Maternal/Obstetrical Medicine as it pertains to high risk pregnancy.
  2. Additional training, interest and/or experience in Research activities including but not limited to knowledge generation, knowledge translation and/or knowledge implementation.
  3. Additional training, interest and/or experience in leadership/administration.

The arrangement will take the form of a salary/service contract. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the published APP ranges and the Division’s internal compensation grid.

Professorship in Midlife and Mature Women’s Health (Associate Professor, grant-tenure)
