Biography
Dr. Bedaiwy is a Professor and Division Head of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He received his medical degree from Assiut University School of Medicine, Egypt where he graduated Valedictorian, summa cum laude.
Dr Bedaiwy completed:
- Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Hospital Case Medical Center, CWRU, Cleveland, Ohio, USA
- Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University Hospital Case Medical Center, CWRU, Cleveland, Ohio, USA
- Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio, USA
- Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in the Division of Reproductive Sciences, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada
- PhD from the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands for his work on ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation
Dr. Bedaiwy is a prolific author with over 400 publications, including 100+ peer-reviewed publications. He is best known for his work in recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), endometriosis and minimally invasive surgery (MIS). He is also an associate editor of the Journal of Ovarian Research, a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, and an ad hoc reviewer for several notable journals, including the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Human Reproduction Journal, the Fertility and Sterility Journal, and more. Dr. Bedaiwy has demonstrated a career-long interest in high-quality medical care, research and education.
In 2013, Dr. Bedaiwy established the Early Pregnancy Research Program, focusing on recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) research. Approximately 50% of RPL cases remain unexplained; his work aims to advance understanding, improve patient care, and raise awareness of early pregnancy complications, particularly RPL.

Teaching
Dr. Bedaiwy has been an active educator for the UBC Faculty of Medicine since 2013. With decades of experience, he has lectured globally on a wide range of obstetric and gynecological topics, focusing on surgical techniques, infertility, assisted reproduction and gynecological disorders. At UBC, he has a long-standing history of mentoring students of all levels, acting as a supervisor, committee chair, examiner and lecturer. He has played a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of medical and scientific professionals through his commitment to education, research, and clinical excellence.
Research
Dr. Bedaiwy oversees the ProRPL Registry, facilitating efficient data collection across diverse patient populations. This registry enables studies investigating genetic, immunological, and environmental factors contributing to RPL, as well as diagnostic tools and treatment outcomes. Dr. Bedaiwy integrates patient-oriented research strategies to guide research areas and refine clinical care. Additionally, Dr. Bedaiwy’s research focuses on endometriosis-related pain and infertility, assistive reproductive technologies, and minimally invasive surgery.
