Th Department is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Robin Johnson as our Indigenous Advisor
Dr. Robin Johnson has a passion for advocacy and hopes her new role as Indigenous Advisor within the Department of OBGYN will promote equity in the provision of women’s gynecologic and perinatal care in our province in line with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. Since 2006 she has practiced community OBGYN in communities in the North and now practices office gynecology with a focus on fertility. She is a proud member of the Esdilagh First Nation, and was one of the first few students to benefit from an access stream for Indigenous students into the UBC Faculty of Medicine in the 1990s.
This is a new position, and she is excited to build relationships with other professionals at UBC and within the province who are working in Indigenous health, women’s health, cultural safety and curriculum development. She is looking forward to lending her perspective to leaders in the department.
“You cannot be a citizen in our province without seeing first-hand how difficult it is to access many kinds of care. I’d like to ensure Indigenous people are not suffering a disproportionate, negative impact from allocation of finite resources.”
