Biography
Dr. Jeff Wong (he/him) is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of British Columbia. He completed his Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences at McMaster University and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Toronto before moving to Vancouver for residency training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and a fellowship in Reproductive Infectious Diseases at UBC. He also undertook a CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. He received competitive research awards, including the CIHR CTN Fellowship, the Allen-Carey Scholarship in Women’s Health, and the Dawn Walker Grant.
Dr. Wong is recognized nationally as an expert in Reproductive Infectious Diseases. He has served on the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) Infectious Diseases Committee, where he contributed to the development of national vaccination guidelines and education during the COVID-19 pandemic. He now serves on the SOGC Clinical Obstetrics Committee, advising on emerging infections, and is a member of the BC RSV Immunization Working Group. He is also the lead author of the SOGC Statement on RSV Immunization to Prevent Infant Infections.
As an early-career researcher, Dr. Wong has published extensively in leading journals, including CMAJ, PLoS One, Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Canada, and JAMMI. He was recently funded by CIHR to establish a national surveillance program on maternal and congenital syphilis. His research has been recognized with awards including the Juan A. Embil Trainee Award for Excellence in Infectious Diseases Research, the JAMMI Trainee Published Manuscript Award, and the D.A. Boyes Memorial Research Award.
Dr. Wong provides clinical care at BC Women’s Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, the Oak Tree Clinic, and Cross Roads Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Areas of Interest in Teaching/Research
Dr. Wong has completed UBC’s Faculty of Medicine Teacher Certificate Programs and serves as a portfolio coach, small group facilitator, and lecturer for undergraduate and postgraduate learners. He actively contributes to the national education of OBGYN residents as a Board of Director on the Canadian Obstetrics and Gynecology Review Program. Within the UBC OBGYN Residency Program, he also serves as the Reproductive Infectious Diseases Resident Supervisor.
His academic interests include perinatal care for people living with HIV, immunization in pregnancy, congenital syphilis prevention, global obstetrical care and medical education.
