He has been a pioneer in advocating patient-based outcomes measures and has worked to develop and validate such measures. Most recently, he has begun translational research in digital therapeutics for pelvic floor disorders. Teaching

My primary educational mission is to provide education that maximizes the learners’ knowledge and skill base while fostering independence, without jeopardizing optimal patient care. I endeavour to use evidence-based educational techniques and have a special interest in surgical education. Within this larger task, I have focused on addressing two challenges to effective surgical education in gynaecology. The first relates to the evolution of Gynecology into a procedure based surgical specialty and the second is the challenge to practicing gynaecologists to maintain proficiency in new minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Within Graduate Education I was a founding member of the partnership between the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics that developed and started the Woman+ and Children’s Health Sciences Graduate Progrm, a cross pillar interdisciplinary graduate program. The WACH Program has developed a competency based framework to ensure graduate education that provides skills to support graduates with many different types of jobs as scientists
.

Research Interests/Skills

My research interests are broad-based including epidemiology of pelvic floor disorders, surgical education, and prevention of maternal obstetrical trauma, and patient centered outcomes, although he is best known for outcomes research for pelvic floor disorders.
