The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology holds a variety of rounds at BC Women’s Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, and Vancouver Hospital and Health Centre. The Grand Rounds will be videoconferenced around the province as well as being recorded for later viewing.
From September 2015 the Department will be utilizing a new service to distribute Academic Rounds. This is a joint service offered through the UBC Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD) office and MedIT to improve UBC clinical faculty and community physician access to academic rounds in BC.
There are three distinct components available to you as part of Distributed Academic Rounds:
BC Rounds Calendar – search through an online calendar containing upcoming Grand Rounds sessions across multiple departments and find ones that are of interest to you. We will still maintain our own calendar that you are familiar with (below) too.
VC Anywhere (Webex) – join live Grand Rounds found in the BC Rounds Calendar from any internet-enabled location using your laptop/phone/tablet. Interact with the presenter and other participants via microphone, camera, and/or chat. Simply click on the icon and follow the link to join a session remotely. Please note: the CHAT option is currently not active.
For those new to this please follow these golden rules:
- Always have your microphone on mute when joining a VC Anywhere session and turn the camera OFF.
- Login at least 5-10 minutes before the session starts just in case you have any technical difficulties you need to resolve.
- In order to claim CME Credits you must complete the evaluation form directly after the session.
Please note that the Faculty of Medicine is currently updating the video conference bridge so you will have more options to join regular meetings. Grand Rounds will continue to use VC Anywhere as it is until the end of the year when we hope to move over to the new format. We will update this site and provide further information when the new system is open to us.
Med Video on Demand – view video recordings of past Grand Rounds sessions through the departmental website.
You can visit the PHSA Media Productions catalogue for BCWH Grand Rounds Archived Recordings. Note: Microsoft Silverlight may need to be installed on your computer in order the view the recordings. Contact IMIT to arrange this installation.
Rounds are classified as a self-approved group learning activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
PLEASE NOTE: When attending Rounds at the Chan Auditorium, there is a very strict rule of NO FOOD OR DRINK allowed in the auditorium. Please leave your drinks on the table outside the room!
