The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is pleased to introduce Dr Francine Tessier as the new MFM Fellowship Director starting 1 April 2015. Francine is taking over from Dr Nancy Kent who has done a great job as the Fellowship Director for the last 5 years. We thank Nancy for her hard work and welcome Francine to the role.
Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Francine completed her MD degree and her Obstetrics & Gynaecology Residency at Université de Montréal before moving to British Columbia in 1994 to complete a Fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at UBC. She then accepted a position in the Division of Maternal Medicine and has since been an active member of the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
In addition to being involved in the administration at BC Women’s as Acting Medical Director of the High Risk Antepartum Program for several years between 2000 and 2011, she has been actively involved in the education of all levels of trainees, as well as in interdisciplinary education. At the postgraduate level, she has been the Ultrasound Rotation coordinator for the ObGyn residents and the MFM Subspecialty residents for several years. At the undergraduate level, she has served as the Year 4 Undergraduate Obstetrics & Gynaecology Lead from 2012 to 2014. She has also enjoyed being a problem-based learning tutor for the Year 1 medical students on a regular basis.
Her interests include diagnostic ultrasound, fetal echocardiography and simulation-based education, both in the context of team-based learning for the management of obstetrical emergencies, and in the teaching of specialized prenatal procedures using various models.
