Drs Magee and von Dadelzsen Move on to Pastures New

Magee and von Dadelszen 2014

It is sad news that at the end of July, Drs. Laura Magee and Peter von Dadelszen will be leaving Vancouver, although we are very proud of them, as they will be assuming new leadership roles at St. George’s, University of London in the UK.

Dr. Magee will join St. Georges as a Professor of Maternal Medicine, where she will establish an academic regional obstetrical medicine program. Dr. von Dadelszen is appointed Professor and Academic Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. His clinical focus will be on maternal medicine services and acute maternity care.  It is a positive reflection on our department that such a prestigious institution should seek their leadership from among our ranks.

Since they joined the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Drs. Magee and von Dadelszen have been active researchers in maternal and fetal health.  Their innovative research and commitment to translating their scientific findings into clinical changes have helped improve the lives of mothers and babies far beyond BC. The scope of their work has been met with appreciation and awards on an international level. Drs. Magee and von Dadelszen will bring this expertise in global health maternal health research to broaden the rich culture of research at St. Georges.

While we regret their physical departure, both Drs. Magee and von Dadelzsen will maintain appointments within our department and will continue their research programs here in Vancouver. We are exceptionally grateful for the excellent work they produce as well as their dedication to teaching and support of their research teams. We wish them well and look forward to their visits to Vancouver.
