Biography

Abiola A Adeniyi is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Global Maternal and Child Health at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, UBC Vancouver. She graduated from UBC with a PhD in Craniofacial Science (Research in Population Oral Health). A dentist by training, she holds a master’s degree in public health from Nigeria and a master’s degree in health management policy and planning from the University of Leeds, UK. Her research interests include maternal and child oral health, COVID-19 in dental practice, oral health access, and policy research. Her doctoral dissertation investigated strategies for an integrated and interprofessional approach to preventive oral care during pregnancy in British Columbia, Canada. Her research studies have employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches.

She also enjoys teaching, and her classes have covered topics such as social determinants of health, social justice, and health promotion. In 2021, she was awarded the prestigious UBC Killam teaching award for graduate teaching assistants. She is a member of national and international collaborative networks in maternal and child oral health such as the World Federation of Public Health Associations’ Oral Health Working Group and serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association for Dental Public Health.
