Director, Vancouver Summer Program

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sharon Mortimer has accepted the role of Director, Vancouver Summer Program (VSP). 

Sharon will be responsible for all aspects of the Vancouver Summer School Program in the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. This includes responsibility for the curriculum, the day-to-day management of the program.

​Sharon Mortimer PhD became a Clinical Embryologist in 1985 and has served as Laboratory/Scientific Director for a number of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) clinics in Canada, receiving CFAS Certification as an ART Scientific Director in 2013. She is a consultant in ART and is an Adjunct Professor in the UBC Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. 

She is the co-author of Quality and Risk Management in the IVF Laboratory, as well as more than 60 publications and 150 conference presentations. She is an active member of 10 professional societies, was a member of the committees that developed the certification standards for ART Laboratory professionals in Canada, and co-author of nine international professional consensus guidelines. She currently serves as the Science Section Editor for Reproductive Biomedicine and Society Online and is the Chair-Elect of Alpha Scientists in Reproductive Medicine.

Her research interests are primarily related to spermatology, particularly sperm function and the use of CASA (computer-aided sperm analysis) in ART.
