Program Curriculum

Transition to Discipline
First year residents will receive broad-based clinical training in all basic discipline that is similar to a rotating internship and completed outside the home program for the first 9 blocks of residency.  The year is completed at either Royal Columbian Hospital (New Westminster) or St. Paul’s Hospital (Vancouver).

Foundation to Transition to Practice (PGY2-5)
Training during Foundations (second year) to PGY5 will occur at BC Women’s, Vancouver General, St. Paul’s, Surrey Memorial and Royal Columbian Hospitals.  Training opportunities are also available at other provincial, national and international hospital sites. During your PGY4 year residents will complete a mandatory rural community site rotation in Victoria, Nanaimo, Kamloops, Kelowna or Prince George.

Academic Half Day (PGY2-5)

The Academic Half Day (AHD), which is the foundation of OBGYN curriculum and it is based on our rotation blocks. Residents will participate in small and large group case-based sessions, simulation sessions and scientific sessions.

Research
Resident involvement in Research is a mandatory requirement of the program.  Each resident must complete a research project to manuscript form by the end of residency. Residents must also present their project twice with at least one of those presentations at the Annual Departmental Academic Day.  Residents receive training in research design and encouraged to present their projects at local, national, and international meetings and conferences.  The department Resident Research Director & Advisory Group provides assistance and mentorship to the residents.
