Biography

Dr. Andrea Neilson is a Miller Mindell Research Fellow and has recently completed her fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology, with the goal to become a research leader on the national and international stage in the field of Gynecologic Oncology.  She is excited to be a member of the University of British Columbia team and all that has to offer.

Prior to her fellowship training, she worked as an academic Obstetrician Gynecologist at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, a tertiary care centre in Edmonton, Alberta with a special interest in high-risk obstetrics, vulvar disease, and family planning.

Dr. Neilson also contributed significantly to medical student and resident education over her nine-year tenure which culminated in her role as Assistant Program Director of the University of Alberta Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program.

Dr. Neilson had early research experience in Biochemistry/Cell Biology in her undergraduate years prior to completing medical school and residency at the University of Alberta.  During her clinical fellowship, exposure to the robust research community in Gynecologic Oncology her in in Vancouver has fueled a passion for the area of translational research and bridging the gap between the bench and the clinic.  Her current research is focused on molecular and genetic tools to improve outcomes and tailor treatments for endometrial and ovarian cancer patients.
